Best Luxury Sports Cars of 2018
If you’re anything like us, you’re compelled to keep up with the latest and greatest vehicles on the market – you know, ‘just in case’. We’ve had a close eye on all that’s hot in the auto industry, and although we might be ever so bias, you can’t deny the lavishness that currently sits on the sports car menu – it is better than ever!
With such an extensive choice it certainly wasn’t an easy decision, but we have identified five of our favourite luxury sports cars of 2018. They each have a dynamic driving experience like no other, and you might be pleasantly surprised at just how affordable they are!
Mercedes-AMG GT Four-Door Coupe
This sporty coupe is the latest production model of Mercedes-AMG, and she’s not just on our list for her striking looks and sexy silhouette. The GT four-door went from concept to production in just one year and trust us when we say she is truly as fierce and she appears.
With AMG described as a corporation that “never stops with engineering development”, the model will be offered with a choice of three petrol engines:
- The first of the trio is a new 3.0-litre inline six-cylinder unit with a mild-hybrid system that produces 450-horsepower.
- An impressive twin-turbocharged 4.0-litre V8 petrol engine fires the second designation of the model, fuelling 577-horsepower.
- The third, most powerful option of the three, sky rockets to 630-horsepower and hits a whopping top speed of 196mph.
The flawless 4Matic all-wheel drive, which was designed by Mercedes-Benz to increase traction force in wet and slippery conditions, can escalate from 0-62mph in just 3.2 seconds. The coupe holds a nine-speed automatic gearbox and will be offered in both S and non-S versions.
Oozing with elegance and performance, the GT comes with frameless doors, low-set headlights, slim taillights and a sleek body. The vehicle features two 12.3-inch touch screens, a 395-litre boot (which can expand to up to 1,324-litres with the seats down) and can even emit its very own “appealing” perfume on command … is she even real?
Next meet the BMW Concept M8 Gran Coupe, because what’s a sports car wish list without a Beamer?
We can admit the look of this beauty had us hypnotised. The ‘Salève Vert’ colour-shifting paint literally changes right in front of your eyes from a glossy green to a grey/blue, and the 21-inch light-alloy wheels feature a two-tone gold and black polish. Fancy.
For extra visual charisma, the M8 Gran Coupe has a fine compact rear, frameless doors, angular devil-stare LED headlights and a long curvaceous roof, making for a rather lustrous looking ride.
The M8 Gran Coupe is designed with ultimate speed in mind, with a two-turbo 4.4-litre V8 engine, a switchable M xDrive and an eight-speed paddle-shift automatic transmission powering 600 horsepower.
The M8, too, is to be sold with a choice of three petrol engine options, including a turbocharged 3.0-litre six-cylinder, a turbocharged 4.4-litre V8 engine (both standard and M division) and a twin-turbocharged 6.6-litre V12 unit.
When can we pick her up?
OK, OK, so she’s a 2017 model. But regardless, this legendary vehicle still makes our hit list for many reasons … the main one being she’s awesome!
The Tesla Model S P100D will simply ‘wow’ you on the road. She is operated by a choice of three levels; Sport mode, Ludicrous mode and Ludicrous Plus mode. In fact, Ludicrous Plus is so ludicrous that the car will even ask you:
“Are you sure you want to push the limits? This will cause accelerated wear of the motor, gearbox and battery.”
Then you must select from one of the following options:
“Yes, bring it on!” or “No, I want my Mommy.”
We’re not kidding.
The dual-motor, all-wheel-drive saloon gains speed beyond comprehendible, hitting 0-60mph in a stomach-dropping 2.4 seconds all thanks to a new over-the-air update in Ludicrous Plus mode.
The 100kWh battery can run for 381 miles from fully charged and makes for a luxurious ride with its autopilot abilities.
On the exterior, the 196-inch long Tesla boasts eight cameras, adding 360-degree visibility and 820-feet length of vision to the mix – nice!
Inside, the Model S P100D not only gives an aura of sophistication with her 17-inch infotainment touchscreen, heated side mirrors with memory, LED interior lighting and retracting door handles, but she is also spacious with her generously large rear boot space and a front trunk.
The Tesla sure puts everything you need directly in front of you for a comfortable yet thrilling ride.
Audi RS5
The best thing about this brand new all-wheel drive Audi RS5 is the ability to custom design the model to suit your requirements. You can pick from ample paint colours and finishes, the size and style of the alloy wheels, the type of headlights you want and more – it’s almost too much variety. I said almost.
The Audi RS5 is a tempting pick for the luxury driver. The new 2.9-litre twin-turbocharged V6 feather-light engine produces power capable of 0-62mph in just 3.9 thrilling seconds.
She beams dominant LED head and rear lights, vibrant rear indicators, has smashing 19-inch silver alloy wheels as standard and can be enjoyed with dynamic ride control. The seven-speed automatic is wider, lighter (by 60kg!), cleaner and snappier than previous models, and even produces 17% lower CO2 emissions.
The interior is tri-zone climate control and flaunts electronically adjustable quality leather seats with refined diamond stitching (front heated).
The Audi RS5 comes with a cutting-edge MMI infotainment system including an MMI Touch 8.3-inch display screen, navigation system, DVD player, 10GB storage, radio, smartphone integration and audio system. That’s sure to keep passengers entertained!
Porsche Panamera Sport Turismo
We expected nothing less than perfect performance from Porsche, but the new Panamera Sport Turismo makes for an astounding ride.
The Sport Turismo happens to be the very first five-seated Panamera, despite Porsche’s compulsions to call it a 4+1 (we’re not buying it).
The standard all-wheel-drive weighs in at 4,486lb with a measure of 5,049 x 1,432mm and a wheelbase of 2950mm.
With her eight-speed dual-clutch transmission, the Sport Turismo propels to 62mph in a lightning-fast 3.6 seconds and has an electronic top speed of 188 mph.
Being at the top of Porche’s Panamera pyramid, the Sport Turismo boasts a twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V8 with a horsepower of 550.
Inside the vehicle, you are spoilt with majestic class from every angle. Be impressed by her well-insulated spacious cabin, stunning leather seats, cruise control, 12.3-inch high-resolution touchscreen infotainment system, climate control, an accessible hatchback-style boot with a whooping 520 litres of space and LED headlights.
